Abuja (April 28, 2021) – Today, Propcom Mai-karfi met with the UK Minister for Africa, James Duddridge (MP), and the UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Girls’ Education and Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Helen Grant (MP), at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in Abuja. The discussion was on rural economies and pro-poor business models.
Propcom Mai-karfi’s Deputy Team Leader, Ogheneovo Ugbebor, was able to show the importance of agriculture to rural economies, highlighting the barriers to the productivity of smallholders and how Propcom uses a private sector-led approach to overcome these barriers through inclusive business models.
We were able to show the Minister examples of how last mile delivery models are driving access to agricultural inputs, service and markets; a major precursor to improved productivity and incomes. Through our partnerships, we’ve improved the productivity and incomes of close to 1.3million people, with net additional incomes of £85million. For every £1 Ukaid invested, we have leveraged £2.1 of private sector investment.
